Car That Runs on Water

As gas prices continue to rise and our air becomes more and more polluted, it is extremely important that we start to consider alternative fuel sources and methods to power  our vehicles. Electric cars are a great innovation ,but are not exactly practical for all people due to their cost, inability to travel long distances, the time it takes to charge them, and having to replace the battery every 10 years (approx). But now there is another solution, what if we could power cars with the most abundant resource we have on earth, water. It has been tried before and many claim they have succeeded. The whole thought behind it is that water is composed of both hydrogen and oxygen, both being extremely combustible elements. A great example of this potential energy that is present in hydrogen was shown by the power of the atomic bomb.
So hypothetically, using this hydrogen as a replacement of gasoline in the internal combustion engine could yield great results. The way these videos claim their vehicles work is by filling up the "fuel tank" with water. A hydrogen fuel cell powered by electricity, then splits the hydrogen into the two elements, H and O, which are both fed into the engine then undergo combustion which powers the vehicle and the alternator in turn provides the electricity required to run the fuel cell. But here's my take on it, with this theory that i find that it goes against many laws of physics and chemistry we have in place. If the car is running on hydrogen then the combustion of hydrogen and oxygen would yield water. This would be the exact same thing that was put into the engine. and because energy is neither created nor destroyed, it only changes forms, that means the the electric energy put into changing water into the two separate elements, would be the same energy you would get from combusting them and you cannot power a car with no excess energy. So that leads me to believe its fake, but then again the energy it yields is heat energy where as internal combustion engines use the expansion of gasses which may not even be considered energy, so maybe again it is possible. Either way i haven't tried it so i don't know for sure, so try it out yourself and check out the original videos. Also feel free to comment below on what you believe and why.
