- one British pound
- a hammer
- a drill or drill press
- some drill bits
- sand paper and polishing paper (available at hardware store)
- a bolt and nut
Steps
1. hit the coin with a hammer repetitively
2. continue hitting and rotating until it the mushroomed edge becomes roughly wider then a ring
3. drill a hole in the middle of the coin
6.while the coin is spinning sand the flat areas out with 100 grit sand paper. Sand the face and the sides
7. once it is smooth go to 600 grit sand paper to smooth it of
9. file away any burs or the inside or the ring and continue to widen the inside with a file
10. go over the inside of it with 100 grit sand paper then 600 grit
11. fasten the ring by the inside to a bar (i used electrical tape to make the ring tight against the bar
12. spin the ring in the drill or drill press and polish it off one last time.
13. if you have a polishing stone or higher grit paper then use it
Most of this seems doable. The hard part seems to be that first step where I need to mushroom the edge
ReplyDeleteactually mushrooming the edge isn't too hard at all it just takes a while. i'd say the part that is hardest is drilling the hole because you have to stop the ring from spinning too much
DeleteThis is cool but it seems i don't have a British pound, is there another substitute? or nah?
